Pitsford Junior School
The new Junior school is set in a former orchard, to one side of a central Yew avenue, screened from the main Listed Hall by old fruit trees.
The school focuses on a courtyard, with the infant and junior classrooms in two wings, each side of central library, hall and art and music rooms. The classrooms in the wings are staggered, so that the courtyard opens out to the orchard, and creates a series of defined external spaces related to each class.
A strong part of the school ethos is experience of the outdoors and this is developed in the design by relating each class area to the adjacent mature landscape, with access via generous covered walkways created by the overhanging roof.
