The warehouse was designed for Reed Elsevier / Harcourt for distribution of mainly educational books. The unit was the first to be erected on the development site. The building housed a large mezzanine area for hand picking with guided forklift trucks along narrow aisle racking.
The site, at a junction on a new bypass, formed a gateway into Rushden. The major elevations were articulated with a stepped mix of shades of silver grey, in differing materials. A prominent corner was emphasised by a projecting, angled fin, which also screened a loading area.
